January is Cervical Cancer Awareness Month (CCAM), an opportunity to raise awareness about cervical cancer and get informed, get screened, and get vaccinated. Cervical cancer is a type of cancer that occurs in the cells of the cervix, the lower part of the uterus that connects to the vagina, and according to the World Health Organization (WHO), it is the fourth most common cancer in women globally.

Common symptoms include:

  • abnormal vaginal bleeding or unusual vaginal discharge
  • pelvic pain and/or pain during intercourse

It is essential for individuals to be attentive and consult a healthcare professional if they experience any of these symptoms. Be proactive and get screened.
